Description

Accounting Technician – Calgary

We are currently expanding the services we provide to our entrepreneurial clients. This growth means we require a Senior Accounting Technician to join our innovative Privately Held Business group. Grant Thornton provides successful candidates with the opportunity to work, with a dedicated team of professionals in an exciting and growing practice delivering accounting, tax, and special purpose engagements to a wide range of clients. You will be a team builder and it will be your goal to provide the highest level of service to our clients and help us build our reputation as the preferred business advisors in our market place.

As an Accounting Technician, your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Preparing notice to reader engagements
  • Preparing personal and corporate tax returns, partnership returns, trust returns and GST returns
  • Performing reconciliations of bank accounts, accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Preparing regular external filings such as payroll, T4’s and T5’s
  • Assisting a broad range of charity, not-for-profit and small business clients with day to day accounting queries
  • Assisting and training junior and intermediate accounting technicians
  • Completing additional ad-hoc duties or assignments as required.

The successful candidate will possess the following competencies/characteristics:
  • 3 to 4 years of accounting experience, preferably in public practice
  • Solid bookkeeping knowledge and understanding of required government taxes (payroll, consumer and other business).
  • Experience with preparation of corporate tax returns, partnership returns, trust returns, and GST returns
  • Experience preparing payroll including knowledge of taxable and non-taxable benefits
  • Experience with notice to reader engagements
  • Strong working knowledge of Simply Accounting and/or QuickBooks, Caseview, TaxPrep or a similar tax program
  • An accounting certificate or diploma would be an asset
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact well with peers and clients
  • Self-sufficient, proactive and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
