Position overview

The Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting performs senior accounting functions for Central 1, subsidiaries and affiliates. The incumbent is responsible for the consolidation between Central 1 and its subsidiaries; and reviews the financial statements of Central 1’s affiliates and subsidiaries to ensure that they are in compliance with current accounting standards.  This is a temporary full-time position from December 2013 up to January 2015.

You will be accountable for:

Financial Reporting
  • Responsible for consolidation function for Central 1. Ensures that inter-company transactions are properly accounted for and performs the reconciliation of Central 1’s financial statement equity.
  • Responsible for preparation and filing of the corporate income tax returns for Central 1’s subsidiaries and affiliates including liaising with external tax advisors on issues.
  • Reviews the financial statements of the affiliates and subsidiaries. Examples of the working papers and reconciliations are:
    • Monthly rate of return for pension trust funds.
    • Financial instruments Mark-to-Market continuity schedules.
    • Financial statement disclosures.
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Monthly reconciliation of sub-ledgers to general ledgers.
  • Reviews the year end audit financial statements’ note disclosures for subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of Central 1’s financial disclosures including summaries of financial position and financial performance.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of the quarterly reporting package for Central’s Audit Committee.
  • Assist the Manager, Financial Reporting in the preparation of disclosures for Financial statements and Management’s Discussion and Analysis as required.
  • Responsible for maintaining Central 1’s share register, performing dividend calculations and performing dues assessment calculations for Central 1’s members.
  • Assist in the preparation of variance analysis for Central 1’s management team and staff as well as external auditors on subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Acts as backup to Team Lead, Financial Reporting and Accountant, Financial Reporting, if needed.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of estimates and forecasts for Central 1, subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Assist the Manager, Financial Reporting and Team Lead, Financial Reporting in special projects and analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Information Systems Management
  • In the absence of Team Lead, Financial Reporting, the incumbent assumes responsibility for Central 1’s accounting system and functions as system administrator of accounting and financial reporting applications used in the Financial Reporting group.
  • Work with Team Lead, Financial Reporting to review, evaluate and recommend potential system upgrades to the Manager, Financial Reporting
  • Work with Team Lead, Financial Reporting to design, test and implement system upgrades and enhancements

Your qualifications include

A professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) and an university degree together with five years of progressively responsible accounting experience are required. Further essential skills include an aptitude for detail, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
