The Lead Material Technical Advisor provides leadership in execution of business goals, programs and processes for Service Shop operations at the railroad. In this role, you will
provide expertise in an advisory capacity, utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, drive process adherence, develop and execute objectives for self and others and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.
• Provide leadership to a team of Material Technical Advisors and/or other service personnel as required
• Provide guidance and setting appropriate goals for direct reports
• Maintain effective remote location operations, repairing locomotives and executing other duties as required to meet customer needs
• Establish and sustain a culture that promotes a safe and positive work environment
• Assure environmental, health and safety compliance
• Lead in the development and implementation of procedures and systems for personnel to operate and maintain the locomotives on the fuel stand and/or with limited shop space and resources
• Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to create repair opportunities in the shop and to gain access to craftsman labour force
• Train and monitor work activities for safe and efficient locomotive repairs
• Responsible for all shift performance & execution, customer communications and issue resolution
• Understand and execute WSA contract requirements
• Drive a one team environment, dedicated to customer success within the shop
• Ownership and leadership of other programs and metrics as required to meet contractual obligations and to deliver business success
• Lead in the execution of all aspects of warehousing and material management including fulfillment, transactional quality, inventory accuracy, productivity and freight forwarding
• Lead the team in managing all aspects of warehouse operations, including site services and implementing necessary upgrades
• Ensuring operational excellence through all phases of material movement and storage
• Set and drive team to meet inventory targets and operational targets including month-end and quarter close processes for inventory
• Managing materials fulfillment metrics including timely hardware "roll dates", kit quality and overtime/unapplied time
• Meeting customer schedules effectively though advanced planning and create ability to expedite shipments as required to meet deadlines
• Working with customers externally and internally to identify new opportunities to improve our current processes as well as design and implement progressive management processes and systems based on LEAN and Six Sigma for control and replenishment of materials
• Must maintain the highest level of integrity and ethics in all dealing with internal customers and external suppliers
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience in a support or field engineering role)
• Willingness to work various shifts on various days
• Knowledge in materials management, operations, inventory control and logistics
• Strong analytical skills and problem solving capabilities
• • Previous supervisory / leadership experience
• Corporate Training Program graduate (manufacturing / operations / engineering)
• Six Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred
• Effective at managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines
• Ability to bring assignments to a successful completion
