The following student position is part of IBM Canada's EPIC (Employment Pathways to Interns & Co-ops) Student Program. This position is only open to students registered in a Canadian University or College program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who must be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary IBM work term. * This Student Position resides in Markham and is a 16 month work term commencing May 2014 Web Software Developer Main Responsibilities for Software Developer include: * In this role, you will work with a team of software engineers to develop, administer and support a set of systems, including a web based application and a P2P-like data distribution system. * Use web development technologies (HTML, Javascript, Dojo, Ruby on Rails) to develop new features and enhancements to the existing systems. * Use of SQL language to perform different tasks, including maintenance of production environment, and the team’s development and test environments. * Use IBM Rational software development tools to design implementation line items, creation and execution of test cases and test plans, source code management, and build release management. * Design, create and maintain test environments. * Perform regular data maintenance tasks related to integration between different systems. * Maintain and administer Linux servers. Qualification: * Experience with object-oriented programming (mandatory) * Experience with HTML (mandatory), Javascript (nice to have) and Ruby on Rails (nice to have) or other web development programming language. * Understanding of Database Management systems (e.g. databases such as DB2, Oracle) and SQL. * Understanding of Agile software development methodologies. * Understanding of Linux shell scripting (nice to have) * Experience with Rational software development tools (RTC, RQM) (nice to have) * Overall sound understanding of various IT technologies (software architecture, Hardware, Operating systems) and the interactions of these technologies * Experience working in a team environment * Coop or internship program enrollment an asset What IBM Offers You: 1.
