Position overview
The Director, Operational Risk Management has oversight over all operational risk across the organization. This position is based in Vancouver but given Central 1’s mandate its scope will encompass both British Columbia and Ontario.
Your qualifications include:
A university degree is required and risk certification is desirable. (RMA, CRC, GARP, FRM)
At least ten years of progressive experience in managing operational risk.
Prior experience working with Risk Control Self Assessment framework is an asset.
An expert knowledge of operational risk management techniques.
A detailed knowledge of data management, information security management and information technology.
A detailed knowledge of financial institution operations, with a particular focus on payments and treasury.
A detailed knowledge of business continuity practices, insurance risk and fraud prevention.
A detailed understanding of the regional, national and global business and economic environment relevant to Central 1.
An ability to assimilate and interpret analysis and trends in order to reach conclusions regarding the type and magnitude of risk associated with various operational processes.
Sound people management and leadership experience is required, including a demonstrated ability of influencing the actions of others within and outside of his/her areas of responsibility.
An ability to effectively manage interpersonal relations across functions and entities in conflicting and competing environments is required.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
An ability to confidently and competently act as a change agent.
You’ll be primarily accountable for:
Setting and articulating a compelling vision for the department.
Leading in the creation of a broad, deep, and aggressive agenda of initiatives which, taken together, represent the organization’s program of continuous improvement in all that we do.
Developing strategy to best meet the overall deliverables of the organization.
Defining and supporting the resolution of ambiguous, complex problems that cross organizational boundaries.
Delegating authority for approval limits and is the central repository of all delegated authorities and internal control mandates at Central 1.
Concurring on all Operational Risk Policy exceptions prior to escalation to the Board for final approval.
Setting management limits for internal operational risk tolerances and operational risk limits within the Board approved Risk Appetite Framework.
Drafting all risk management policy and policy standards related to Operational Risk, Information Security and Acceptable Use.
Developing and maintaining Central 1’s Operational Risk framework.
Developing and maintaining techniques and tools for Operational Risk management.
Providing reporting to senior management and the Board on operational risks.
Ensuring implementation of a business continuity management framework throughout the organization
Developing, implementing and managing strategic information and the security management framework in support of Central 1’s business goals.
Overseeing fraud risk.
Ensuring the appropriate level of corporate security is in place, including adequate physical security of sites.
Overseeing the Risk Control Self-Assessment process.
Ensuring that the risk inherent in both existing and new or contemplated activities are defined, approved and appropriately managed.
Ensuring the appropriate use of stress testing techniques.
Creating strategies and plans that define how risk management should be utilized to support the organization’s overall business strategy.
Acting as a transformational leader in applying best practices to current processes.
Making organizational changes based on customer feedback to meet evolving customer needs.
Researching best practices and innovation as it relates to processes and growth of the department
Understanding the nature of this changing business and putting in place to mitigate impact on organization and people.
Demonstrating high level of technical and professional knowledge.
Communicating the organization’s strategic initiatives to keep group focused on the right priorities.
Continually sharing knowledge of trends, competition, etc that affect the group.
Participating in the development of industry through leadership
Adeptly managing the internal/external political realities such as boundaries between departments and functions that left unresolved can have a significant organizational impact
Creating organizational culture and processes that enable cross functional teamwork and development of cooperative relationships.
Taking responsibility for the development of staff while addressing succession initiatives
