CONTROLLER – DAWSON CREEK BRANCH
Lake View Credit Union is a dynamic organization with over 12,000
members and assets over $288 million. It serves northeastern British
Columbia with branches in Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge. The
Controller will work in Dawson Creek, which is a community that offers
an abundance of outdoor recreation such as camping, hiking, fishing,
golfing, skiing, and snowboarding featuring beautiful mountain ridges,
waterfalls and alpine meadows. Dawson Creek has developed in to an
economically strong community in the South Peace with opportunities in a
number of growing service-based industries including agriculture, oil
and gas, mining, tourism and forestry services. Dawson Creek has a state
of-the-art multi-events centre that is the premier entertainment
facility for the entire British Columbia and Alberta Peace Region.
EnCana Events Centre facilitates concerts, aquatic center, indoor
walking/running track, and rock wall climbing. Dawson Creek is located
at the world famous Mile “0” of the Alaska Hwy, 412 km northeast of
Prince George and 591 km northwest of Edmonton and a population of close

POSITION
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Risk and managing the
finance team, this position will be responsible for preparing monthly
and annual financial statements, statistical returns, annual capital
adequacy returns and reports; preparing annual operating and capital
budgets for executive review; managing the credit union's investment
portfolio and borrowings; regularly reviewing positioning in the
marketplace with respect to deposit and loan portfolios; monitoring
accounting policies and standards and recommending changes to enhance
data integrity and interpretation; organizing, chairs and participates
in Asset Liability Committee; Investment and Lending; Audit Committee
monitoring liquidity; acting as liaison with Internal and External
auditors; and the preparing year end trial balance. EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE ROLE
- Completion and management of financial controls, policies and procedures in place
- Planned financial and risk management goals and objectives are achieved
- Internal and external stakeholders are provided with accurate reporting of the Credit Union’s status
- Internal and external service levels are achieved through the proactive implementation of continuous improvement processes for policies and procedures
- Employees in the Finance and Administration department are knowledgeable about the Credit Union’s policies and procedures
- Employees in the Finance and Administration department are satisfied and motivated in their positions
- A positive and professional work environment is maintained
- University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree or professional accounting designation (such as CGA, CMA)
- Minimum 3-5 years comparable experience in a financial services institution, including demonstrated team or department leadership capability
- Demonstrated understanding of IFRS
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel Preference will be given to candidates with a professional designation and experience in the Credit Union System
