Major Purpose:
The incumbent will be responsible for implementing effective
workplace environmental, safety and health programs and assuring
compliance under the direction of the Manager, Health, Safety and
Environmental. The incumbent will be responsible for working with
multiple units across multiple provinces. Will assist in the development
of programs in order to comply with regulatory and company standards.
As appropriate, interacts with external agencies. This position will be
located in Altona, Manitoba or Grimsby, Ontario.
Major Duties:
Major Duties:
- Maintain provincially legislative legal requirements for Environmental Health Safety (EHS) responsibilities for unit specific locations.
- Ensure Deere and Company standardized programs and requirements for EHS will be implemented and maintained consistently across Canada.
- Analyzes appropriate (EHS) functional reporting metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Assists in developing recommendations for safety processes/programs to attain and sustain a hazard free workplace. This includes design and evaluation of components to monitor effectiveness.
- Coordinates safety audits with representatives of safety committees as appropriate, to identify unsafe conditions and actions. Coordinates corrective and preventative processes/actions.
- Assures compliance with regulatory agency and company environmental, health and safety requirements.
- Develops, directs and conducts safety presentations and training to promote and sustain awareness.
- Leads programs such as "WHMIS" Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and/or appropriate regulatory standards to assure a healthy workplace environment exists.
- Reviews new products, equipment, processes and facilities for potential hazards and compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards; making recommendations if necessary prior to introduction.
What It Takes
Required:
- Investigation skills to determine root cause and conduct trend analysis of incidents.
- Knowledge of governmental/agency regulatory requirements or legislation, occupational health principles, occupational safety programs and ergonomic principles, and ability to apply to workplace environments.
- Understanding of regulatory agencies and company's standards for injury and illness reporting requirements necessary to document incidents.
- Ability to use standard desktop load applications such as Microsoft Office plus intranet and internet functions.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, warehousing and factory operations.
- Demonstrated experience in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Familiarity with safety practices in manufacturing or warehouse environments.
- Ability to travel approximately 40% as required.
- Ability to may lead to off hours and varying shifts as required.
Assets:
- University Degree. Degree in a business, management, health sciences or engineering discipline or the equivalent in education and/or experience.
- Experience in a warehouse, manufacturing operation, manufacturing engineering, or industrial engineering environment.
- Experience in the Deere safety environment;
- Experience working in a Human Resources function with exposure to health, safety and wellness activities;
- Experience working in a safety role.
- Experience working in an environmental role.
