    Job Title: J9 Virtual Machine Developer - 4 - 8 months Coop - May 2014 (Ottawa)

We are looking for software developers who are enthusiastic about working at the language runtime level as part of the IBM Java Virtual Machine team. We are a fast paced team that works on many different technologies at once and has a high rate of innovation and delivery. Technologies that we build and influence include garbage collection, interpretation, virtualization and platform exploitation, all in the context of virtual machines for interpreted languages. Our team members are enthusiastic, curious types that are interested in different languages and working with the internals at the runtime layer. We work on a variety of architectures (x86, POWER, z/Architecture, ARM) and operating systems (Linux, Windows, OS X, AIX, z/OS). Our work is part of the foundation of many of IBM's products and its strategic directions.

You should be comfortable in an environment that is predominantly C and C++ based, but you should also show proficiency and willingness to go down to the assembly language level. Polyglot skills are an asset, as we work in a variety of dynamic scripting languages. You will be expected to contribute to performance analysis and tuning, as well as work with our customer support teams to assist with problem determination and delivering fixes. We have a strong team environment where work and design is collaborative, but also where individuals are expected to operate with a level of autonomy and responsibility that leads to quality software practices and delivering business results.

We deliver software the world runs on. Will you be a part of our team and help shape the future?

    WHAT IBM OFFERS YOU:

    1. Work directly on product and services that affect our clients, while having access to cutting edge software technology
    2. Work is challenging and rewarding
    3. Access to obtain IBM Product Certification during work term
    4. A casual dress code and flexible work hours, to ensure work-life balance
    5. Future Blue - IBM’s large student community that provides networking opportunities, sporting and social events.

Students must apply to www.ibm.com/start in addition to their university job board (if applicable) in order to be considered for the position
