The Senior Consultant serves as an individual contributor on a project team, working under the
direct supervision of the Engineering Team Lead and other team members on projects. The Senior
Consultant should be capable of working independently with minimal direction and have working
knowledge of software development methodologies. Proficiency in one
or more high level programming languages is required. The Senior
Consultant must work well with others in a team
environment.
In addition, the Senior Consultant:
Gathers user requirements and performs system and application design based on the
analysis of those requirements to improve the client’s existing GIS systems
Consults with the client to analyze current operational procedures, identity problems and
provide geographical information system technical support
Develops custom GIS/OMS/Mobile applications using Magik/.Net or other relevant application
development languages
Assists senior staff members and clients with system and application design
Assists with data modeling design and review
Develops applications using industry-standard programming languages such as C++, Java, or
others as dictated by specific project requirements
Assists with interface design and development to external systems
Mentors and advises less experienced consultants and client staff on the intricacies of the GE
Smallworld GIS/OMS system and related applications
Assists in the development of internally funded software products
Adheres to coding standards and complies with quality software quality
Contributes to and uses the Smallworld Magik Class Library as appropriate
Works independently and presents a technically competent, professional image while on
assignment at client locations
Participates in development of training materials and delivery of training as appropriate
Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related field with a
minimum of 3 years of related work experience OR a Master's Degree
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Ability and willingness to travel overnight for consecutive dates as required
Familiarity with many aspects of the GE Smallworld GIS Software and the Magik programming
language, or related GIS and/or Object-Oriented design and programming education/experience
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Solid business acumen
Object orientated development expertise in Java
Knowledge and experience with PowerOn OMS and/or FFA
Knowledge and experience with Web Services, XML, Microsoft .NET Framework
Familiarity with Oracle databases and PL/SQL
Excellent oral and written communication skills and able to discuss complex technology in a
clear and concise manner with a variety of audiences
Team player with professional/positive personal presence
Flexible to work extended hours as circumstances dictate
Willing to take on a variety of tasks with little supervision
Desire to learn new skills related to GIS development including computer hardware (plotters,
mobile) and software
