The Database Architect will be a key member of the Software Architecture and Systems Engineering team responsible for architecting, designing and developing large scale OLTP databases for run-time applications and data warehouses for reporting and analytics. As part of an Agile Scrum development team the Architect will contribute to multiple product teams developing applications for both on-premise customer installations as well as hosted in private and public clouds.
In addition, in this role you will:
  • Manage and own the data model for all the products
  • Interface with product teams to gather functional requirements
  • Design, develop and test RDBMS database schemas, indexes, keys, triggers, jobs and stored procedures to meet the requirements
  • Design, develop and test OLAP schemas, ETLs and other cube functions to meet requirements
  • Optimize database designs and implementations through performance analysis tuning
  • Define and recommend database deployment architectures including partitioning and replication
  • Investigate and evaluate new technologies and other industry trends and make technology recommendations to other teams
  • Feasibility analysis and prototyping
  • Generate clear and concise design documentation
  • Interface with technology leadership and engineering teams
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders including other GE businesses to ensure product success
  • BSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with OLTP databases, stored procedure development, database performance optimization, OLAP databases and Microsoft SQL Server

  • MSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in parallel computing architectures for data analysis / map reduce
  • Experience with databases and object relational mapping (ORM) tools
  • Experience implementing standards in software (e.g. IEC, IEEE, ISO, W3C)
  • SQL Reporting Services
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new development practices, languages, and tools
  • Strong architecture and design skills
  • Experience using C/C++, C#/Java, and Web Services
