Job function:
Assists in managing the overall operation of a branch, including investment and loan portfolios; comprised of both small business and consumer oriented loans; initiates action to improve growth and development of the branch loan and deposit portfolios; manages directly or indirectly all branch staff; implements marketing plans for product and service promotion; and analyses financial statements and produces branch reports.

Major duties and responsibilities:
  • Assists to manage overall branch operations including both deposit and loan portfolios and funds under administration; directs the utilization of staff, equipment and facilities to ensure member satisfaction and services offered are maintained at a high level, and to promote adherence to established policies and procedures; maintains proper security procedures.
  • Manages directly and indirectly all branch staff which may include subordinate supervisors; recommends and implements training and development programs; identifies opportunities for staff growth and promotes motivation, enthusiasm, service excellence, product knowledge and professionalism; coaches staff in sales techniques and cross selling of credit union products and services; establishes performance standards, evaluates performance of subordinate staff; if necessary initiates discipline; conducts staff meetings.  Monitors all branch activities to ensure awareness of operational problems and successes and makes recommendations to the Branch Manager. 
  • Markets products and services by implementing plans to increase member awareness and branch profitability; ensures staff are kept up to date and well informed on products and services and in all aspects of cross selling, relationship building, sales and service standards. 
  • Acts as a resource person for opening new business accounts and effectively matches appropriate services to business client needs. 
  • Identifies opportunities to promote, up sell and cross sell the credit union products including consumer loans, mortgages, lines of credit, credit cards, complex agricultural, small business and commercial loans. 
  • Good knowledge of financial statements and review of statement of business activities from income tax for small business.  Reviews and analyzes financial statements and credit files on a regular basis; prepares and submits branch reports. 
  • Actively involved in community events and service group(s).
  • Creates annual Performance Plans to set and monitor goal and objectives.  Supports branch employees in the creation and monitoring of their annual Performance Plans.
  • Promotes teamwork with other departments to ensure superior service levels.
  • Maintains personal investment/ lending limits and meets personal targets.
Qualifications Required
  • Post-secondary education in a related business field or equivalent work experience
  • CSC achievement preferred 
  • Personal Financial Planning designation achieved or in progress
  • CUIC 210 or equivalent 
  • Previous supervisory experience and courses preferred with excellent communication, coaching, training and interpersonal skills for leading staff
  • Leader/coaching experience preferred
  • Enrolled in the CSI Small Business Lending Accreditation program preferred
  • Proven relationship management and sales effectiveness skills; proven ability to meet financial targets; demonstrates results orientation in both sales and service
  • Minimum 3 years lending and investment experience demonstrating in depth knowledge of policies, procedures and the documentation process preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of cash products and services
  • Ability to analyze financial statements
  • Ability to identify member needs and match appropriate solutions
  • Demonstrates attitude, enthusiasm and professionalism required to be a respected leader
  • Understanding of markets and trends in the industry
  • Commitment to continuous personal improvement
