Position overview
Central 1 Credit Union has an exciting employment opportunity for a Credit Analyst in our department of Credit & Counterpart Risk Management. The Credit Analyst is primarily responsible for performing financial analysis, writing client/counterparty credit reviews, and supporting risk management initiatives, all with the aim of facilitating Central’s pursuit of growth within prudent risk parameters. The primary businesses supported are Treasury & Funding and Payments & Technology.The position is based in Vancouver, B.C., but given Central 1’s mandate its scope will encompass both British Columbia and Ontario.
You’ll be primarily accountable for:
- Preparing quantitative and qualitative credit reviews of investment securities, counterparties, and clients
- Providing recommendations regarding credit appetite, structure, and mitigation of credit risk
- Proactively liaising with Treasury front office and Payments business development in order to support client and business needs in a timely and appropriate manner
- Ensuring existing counterparties and clients are reviewed and approved on a regular basis in accordance with Central’s policies
- As required, working closely with other Central 1 departments on projects and initiatives
- Providing input as required into the maintenance and revision of Central 1’s policies and procedures
Your qualifications include
As the successful candidate, you possess an undergraduate degree in commerce, business studies, economics, finance, mathematics, or another quantitative subject. If you are working towards an accounting or CFA designation, this will be considered an asset. You must have some prior experience in a role related to finance, investment, and/or risk management. Previous experience of preparing written credit or financial analyses is essential, while experience working within an independent risk function is desirable. You are familiar with treasury and/or investment activity and possess the following skills, qualities, and abilities:- Proficiency in MS Office, including advanced ability in Excel
- Ability to synthesize and distil information from a number of sources
- Excellent oral communication and debating skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Strong and accurate quantitative skills - financial modelling skills are preferred
- Strong desire and ability to learn and develop new skills
- Motivated, deadline driven, efficient
- Ability to think both independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to develop with the unit and to cope with a rapidly changing environment
