Overview

An exciting and challenging position exists as a full-time Trade Marketing Manager at Vega’s head office in Burnaby, BC. You will partner with our growing sales team to drive sales and grow distribution. The core responsibility of this role is to lead marketing initiatives at the retail level including sales support materials, communication, training and education, point-of-purchase (POP), and merchandising materials.
You are highly specialized in retail behaviour with an expertise in merchandising and shopper insights. You understand the science behind retail activities and know the difference between the ‘shopper’ and the ‘consumer’. You are comfortable navigating in a crowded category and know unique tactics that will help differentiate at shelf.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive a trade marketing strategy, leveraging the portfolio and optimizing resource allocation in alignment with sales and marketing strategies
  • Develop and maintain a high level of expertise in retail channel delivering actionable insights
  • Develop and initiate understanding of  consumer and shopper behaviours, to identify insights and trends, to capitalize on business objectives and strategy
  • Partner with sales team to develop initiatives and keep aligned with corporate strategies. Day-to-day sales communication regarding: trade programs, product launches, industry insights etc.
  • Develop and implement promotional activities and or guidelines for points of interaction/interruption to meet the shoppers’ needs
  • Develop and review trade programs and materials (eg. sales manual, training calendar, presentations, offers, retail newsletters, displays, planograms)
  • Liaise with field Sales Manager and support field team with new materials
  • Act as an advocate for sales team’s needs and process
  • Conduct field visits with representatives to identify marketing opportunities at retail and develop relationships with key customers
  • Develop ROI and KPI models and ensure all major initiatives are executed and provide on-going feedback and recommendations
  • Provide coaching and feedback to assist with the development of team members and direct reports

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years in Marketing and/or Brand Management, with experience specifically focused on Trade Marketing and Sales Support
  • 1 to 2 years of leadership experience with direct reports
  • Business Degree in Marketing
  • Prior experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) Trade Marketing
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Performance driven with desire to take on a high level of responsibility and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive with the ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
  • Energetic with positive, fun-loving nature
  • Team player with ability and willingness to accept and provide feedback
  • Passion for nutrition and health
