About the Asset Allocation and Alternatives team

The Asset Allocation and Alternatives (“AAA”) team has two broad areas of responsibilities: The first is a rapidly growing business, building and managing asset allocation, multi-asset and managed-solution portfolios. The second is a new initiative for Mackenzie, with the goal of building absolute returns portfolios based on active management and exposure to uncorrelated risk premiums. To build those portfolios, the team will build top-down active strategies from the ground up such as Global Tactical Asset Allocation, and will also source alpha return streams from Mackenzie’s existing equity and fixed income investment teams to create multi-strategy portfolios.

To support this exciting and rapid growth phase, we are presently looking to add disciplined, sophisticated and talented investors to our team. Specifically, we are recruiting for an experienced Portfolio Manager to lead research initiatives, build and manage alternative portfolios on the AAA team.

As a senior member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Building, overseeing and managing alternatives portfolios to provide competitive returns
Leading cutting-edge research initiatives to forecasting the risk and returns of stocks, bonds, currencies and commodities and related derivatives
Preparing and delivering presentations to retail and institutional clients
Contributing to investment thought leadership and the design of innovative investment solutions to meet clients needs
Writing commentaries as needed in support of regulatory and client service requirements

Requirements:

Master or PhD degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related discipline
Ten years of direct portfolio management and disciplined research experience at world-class institutions
Proven track record of consistent and superior  performance directly managing a systematic macro, GTAA, multi-asset strategies and/or asset allocation mandate, combined with a broad knowledge of other active management strategies
Deep knowledge of economics, asset pricing, portfolio construction, risk management and derivatives
Strong econometric skills and related forecasting techniques
Excellent and proven presentation skills, and comfortable leading presentations to both retail and institutional clients
Team player with reputation for coaching and mentoring others
Ability to work under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlines
Strong computer skills (programming, databases) would be an asset
