The VP/Director of Credit Research is responsible for leading the Franklin Bissett Fixed Income team’s fundamental credit research process, including individual company/issuer credit analysis and security valuation, as well as broad credit market industry reviews. The VP will collaborate with both the portfolio management team and trading desk in helping to drive the team’s overall allocation to credit sectors and exposures to individual issuers/credits. Furthermore, the VP will collaborate with Franklin Bissett equity analysts and Franklin Templeton credit analysts.
Responsibilities include:
Lead and manage the fundamental research process including bottom-up fundamental research on assigned issuers and sectors of the Canadian fixed income market, relative value assessments, and recommended position weights
Prepare credit reports for Franklin Bissett’s Investment Committee on new issuers added to Bissett Franklin portfolios
Collaborate with research counterparts within Franklin Bissett equity and Franklin Templeton credit teams
Participate in weekly macro and sector strategy meetings
Support the team as needed in the preparation of quarterly and ad hoc client reporting, white papers, and client meetings to discuss general credit market trends.
Provide support to Canadian sales teams through conference calls and client meetings.
Participate in media activities (print and audio/visual).
Ideal candidates will have:
MBA and/or CFA required
10+ years of fixed income research experience, with
Significant Canadian-centric credit experience
Strong understanding of relative value within fixed income markets
Buy or sell-side experience as a credit analyst preferred but would consider experience in investment/commercial banking in a credit capacity
Ability to build financial models while displaying a clear understanding of accounting principles and cash flow analysis.
Good intuitive credit judgment and analytical abilities.
Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to display confidence when presenting recommendations.
